Fake it till you become it

By February 2, 2020 March 1st, 2020 Mindfulness

It is possible to find peace and meaning in even the most difficult moments. But, it’s a constant practice, isn’t it? To be calm and collected is a practice, like any other skill. Day in and day out, we practice. Then, what we practice, we start to become! I don’t believe in the saying, “Fake it till you make it.” I believe in, “Fake it till you become it.”

If we are angry, sad, lonely, scared, that doesn’t have to define us. If we practice giving ourselves moments of peace and calm, if we practice noticing moments of peace and calm when we get precious access to those moments, we will begin to be an accumulation of those moments.

I leave reminders for myself, so that I keep up the practice of being the person I want to be. It’s easy to fall out of it, so positive reminders help me stay focused. I know that writing positive affirmations (affirming messages to myself), mindfulness and meditation practices, singing, choosing the right music to listen to, and being creative all work wonders for me, because I feel better when I use these practices! I feel more connected with myself and those around me. I feel more in control of my emotional responses to stressful times in my life.

Have you found what works for you yet? I find that it takes a lot of different practices, because every day is a little different. Active practices really help me break out of the constant cycles I play in my head, and get my brain and body out of that feeling of being totally worn thin. Whatever works for you…works. Don’t worry about what other people do, just do whatever it takes to find inner peace for yourself. We all need you to be the best version of yourself.
